Takashima City, in Shiga Prefecture, is located in the northwestern part of Lake Biwa. The area releases one-third of the water of Lake Biwa by underground water and thaw water flowing from the Nosaka Mountains and the Hira Mountains. It englobes a lot of sightseeing spots such as Makino Kogen, Takashima Trail, Hakodateyama, Makino Sunny Beach, Kaizu Osaki Cherry Blossoms, Tanada rice field (see image on the left), Shirahige Shrine and so many more.
Lake Biwa is an ancient lake formed 4 million years ago. It is the largest freshwater lake in Japan. Approximately 450 rivers flow into Lake Biwa, and the southernmost Seta River (renamed the Uji River) and the Yodo River, are connected to Osaka Bay (Seto Inland Sea). The deepest part of the Lake is located between the mouth of the Ado River in Takashima City and Chikubu Island in Nagahama City (104 meters). 25% of the water stored in Lake Biwa flows From Takashima City, making it a valuable area as a water source forest. Activities include camping, fishing, kayaking, sap and lake bathing.
Kyoto needs no further introduction. Its fame now goes beyond Japanese borders. You can easily visit this magnificent city from Hifumikan. it is only 70 minutes by Special Rapid Service from JR Makino Station to Kyoto. There are even more to explore : in 60 minutes you can be to Nagahama, Hikone, Obama and Fukui. The inn is located about 120 minutes from Nagoya, Osaka and Kanazawa.
